Words are not cheap. They’re creative power.
A statement can name someone into strength… or shrink them into silence. Words can turn a home into a refuge or a battlefield. Words can build a culture of courage or of fear. But some of us have a propensity to treat words cheaply because they’re readily available.
For stewards, it’s important to meditate on the idea that we are not called to use words only for the purpose to communicate. Stewardship is about using words to shape.
Scripture says it plainly: life and death sit in the tongue. Not metaphorically. Practically.
So as stewards, here’s the task:
Before you use words, let Truth use you. Before you speak, decide that your words will give Life. Before you express yourself, make sure that the Way you use words is to build and not destroy:
- If it’s Truth, is it without cruelty?
- If it’s Correction, is it without humiliation?
- If it’s Conviction, is it without noise?
- If it’s Love, is it godly – or self-glorifying?
Food for thought:
People won’t only remember what you said. They’ll remember what your words made them believe about themselves. And that belief can become their world.
