We talk about Blue Monday as if it’s a given, as if Mondays are meant to feel tough.
Let me ask you something: can you remember when you started thinking of Monday as blue, or when you made it your own?
Is it your favourite colour – or is it just the mood you’ve accepted as normal? And if it’s the latter… what else have you accepted as normal over time without even realising it?
Did you know that Monday doesn’t mean the same thing everywhere?
- In English and much of Europe, Monday is literally Moon-day, named after the moon and connected to rhythms and cycles.
- In Portuguese, Monday is called segunda-feira, which means “the second weekday.” This name shows a focus on order and structure.
- In Arabic, Monday is al-ithnayn, meaning “the second.” Here too, it’s counted rather than given a mythological meaning.
It’s the same day, but it means something different depending on where you are.
So maybe Monday itself isn’t the problem. Maybe the real issue is what we allow to shape our days.
Being a good steward means learning to notice what we’re giving our attention and power to, or what we’ve slowly started to value: mood, money, approval, control, productivity, comfort, or even just staying informed.
Whatever you focus on ends up guiding you, often quietly and without you realising it.
So here’s the challenge for today: notice your feelings and name them, but don’t let them take the lead.
As a steward, you’re heading where God leads, trusting that you’re in God’s care.
Choose alignment before you choose a mood or socially accepted behaviours. Choose your ruler before you choose your day.
In summary, it doesn’t have to be a blue Monday. You know?
Over and Out.
One, Perfect Love.
