The AHC – reintroduction

There is a phrase in my mother tongue, Setswana, that has become the foundation of my life: Modimo O mosa. It means God is gracious. God is merciful. This truth is the bedrock of my story. I remember the day I decided to live for Modimo, not out of duty, but from a place of profound encounter.

That decision did not instantly make me perfect because, in fact, I think the opposite may have happened in that I suddenly became more acutely aware than ever of my own imperfections, shortcomings, and vices. This journey has been a raw process of being reconfigured, redefined, remade, reimagined… I can almost say re-created, yet it is a path I would choose again a million times over. For in that awareness of my own brokenness, I truly began to understand grace. I saw that I could fall short, and yet, the truth remained unshakable: Modimo O Mosa!

This realisation sparked within me a strong desire to make a positive difference—not to earn favour, but as a response to the mercy that I had already received. As such, my work and my life are now dedicated to this principle. I embrace kindness because I know the forgiveness I have been given. I risk loving others because I have experienced a love that is not based on my performance or ‘love language’. This is one of the things that is at the heart of Omosa—grace not as a reward for my strength, but as the very source of it.

This experience speaks to a tension I have carried within me. I have a deep, instinctive aspiration for what I call my Highest Self. For me, this is the echo of the person Modimo created me to be—whole, complete, and sinless. It is my best guiding light. Yet, my daily existence is confronted by reality and the constant reminder that I have limitations. It begs the question: how, then, do I create harmony between my highest aspirations and my vulnerable reality?

The answer, I believe, was given to us thousands of years ago already. What has happened with me is that based on my own personal experiences, I have created a blueprint that forms the foundation of my Audacious Humility Codex.

Let’s quickly establish a few things that guide my thinking
  • My relationship with God is very real to me.
  • The Highest Self is the flawless design that Modimo holds for us.
  • God’s presence does not seem to rest on the Law, but above it – on the place of atonement that covers the Law.
  • The AHC below, to me, is the manifestation of God’s mercy and grace which can guide us towards atonement, obedience, surrender and love. It is God’s gracious, merciful answer to my inevitable failure to uphold the divine standard perfectly.
  • The New Testament reveals that through Christ, the new dwelling place for God’s holy presence is no longer a box of wood and gold, but the human heart.
  • You and I are now the symbolic equivalent of the Ark of the Covenant.

Okay! Those are brave things to say… but let’s get into it.

My AHC

Understanding that I am probably a living Ark of God’s presence leads me to a new way of being. This is what led me to create the Audacious Humility Codex (AHC). The Codex is the framework and blueprint for my journey. It is akin to a covenant that becomes a personal agreement I make to live within the dynamic reality of my inner Ark. It is my commitment to embrace the sacred tension between the perfect standard within me and the perfect mercy that covers me, defined by two postures: Audacity and Humility.

The ‘Audacity’ to Aspire to My Highest Self

The first posture of my covenant is Audacity. This is the courage I must have to take the contents of my inner Ark with radical seriousness. It is the audacity to believe that my Highest Self, that perfect blueprint, is truly Modimo’s deepest intention for my life. It is the audacity to accept the “mind-blowing idea” that the infinite Creator has chosen to make His sacred dwelling place within me.

This is not arrogance. Arrogance is believing I can achieve this on my own. Audacity is believing that the One who dwells within me is powerful enough to accomplish His purpose through me.

The ‘Humility’ to Live Under Mercy

The essential counterbalance to my audacity is a profound and constant Humility. This is the posture of living with my face turned toward the throne of God. It is my grateful recognition of my absolute dependence on the grace of Modimo, my creator. This humility is the freedom to acknowledge my imperfections, shortcomings and vices without shame or fear, because I know they are fully covered by the mercy of God.

My access to the holy presence within is not earned by my performance; it is granted solely through the grace and mercy that meet me where I am. It is to know, in the deepest part of my being, that Modimo O mosa.

How My Humility Fuels My Audacity

Here I arrive at the beautiful, life-altering core of my Audacious Humility Codex. Audacity and Humility are not opposing forces. Profound humility is the very fuel for my true audacity.

Let me a bit extra here – it is only in the absolutely secure place of the unconditional mercy of God (Humility) that I am finally freed of the debilitating fear of failure and the prison of my past self. For now I know that if my worth and my standing toward God are not on the line, then I may freely risk bold, audacious, daring initiatives in line with Colossians 3:23-24 (NKJV) – “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

It is this authority that allows me to chart my course through the six domains of my AHC plan, from Self-Awareness through Community Engagement. Grace does not lower the standard of God’s Law; it enables my active pursuit of that standard.

An Invitation to You

The Ark of the Covenant, for example, was made to move, built with carrying poles to lead God’s people on their journey. In the same way, the Audacious Humility Codex is a practical guide for the journey of life. “Carrying my AHC” is my daily practice of living as a vessel of God’s presence.

Living by applying the AHC is a personal invitation to yourself, through a series of reflective practices to cultivate the inner reality that aligns with your Highest Self. It’s a contract you enter into with yourself which says:

  1. I Will Acknowledge the Law Within: Today, I will take time to be still and reflect on my Highest Self. I will ask Modimo to show me the divine blueprint He has placed within me—my unique gifts, passions, and callings. I will make every effort to recognise that my high calling is not as a burden, but a beautiful and sacred agreement.
  2. I Will Acknowledge that Modimo O mosa: When I experience failure, frustration, or shame, I will consciously turn my attention to the God’s mercy. Instead of striving harder or condemning myself, I will practice receiving grace. I will whisper the truth that holds me: “Modimo O mosa.” I will let His mercy cover my shortcomings and restore my peace.
  3. I Will Listen for God’s Voice in Every Moment: God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit for which He has created a sacred place in me for. In the same way, He desires to speak to me from the sacred space within my own heart. I will work on creating moments of inner stillness, turn down the noise of the world, and listen for the gentle guidance and loving wisdom of the God who dwells within me.

Using the AHC

So, how do we practically “carry our Ark”? The Audacious Humility Codex is not an abstract theory; it is a tangible blueprint for navigating life. It is composed of seven interconnected elements: your Higher Self at the core, surrounded by six key domains of your life.

Think of your Higher Self as the captain of your Ark, the essence of who you are. The six domains are the critical systems of your vessel—the hull, the sails, the cargo, the crew. For the Ark to be seaworthy and reach its destination, all parts must be tended to with intention. Using the AHC is the practice of bringing all seven elements into a harmonious rhythm, guided by Audacity and covered by Humility.

Let’s explore each one.

1. The Higher Self: The Captain of Your Ark

At the very centre of the AHC is the Higher Self—the integrator of everything, the captain of your journey. This is the essence of who Modimo created you to be, the perfect blueprint you carry within. It is the part of you that is connected to the divine, the source of your deepest wisdom and intuition.

  • What it is: Your core identity, values, and life force. It is the orchestrator that seeks to bring the other six domains into balance and alignment with your ultimate purpose.
  • How to use it: Engaging with your Higher Self is a practice of turning inward. It’s asking questions like:
    • “What is my truest, most authentic response here?”
    • “Is this decision in harmony with the person I aspire to be?”
    • “How can I act with both genuine humility and the audacious spirit Modimo has given me?”.

It’s about leading your life from this centred, sacred space within.

2. Self-Awareness: Knowing Your Inner Ark

To be a good captain, you must know your vessel intimately. This is Self-Awareness. It is the humble and courageous act of confronting the inner light and darkness of your Ark—not to judge or condemn, but to understand.

  • What it is: The practice of reflecting on your values, beliefs, emotions, strengths, and weaknesses. It involves developing mindfulness, understanding your personality, and identifying your blind spots.
  • How to use it: This domain invites you to engage in practices like journaling, meditation, prayer, and honest self-reflection. You might conduct a personal SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) or seek feedback from trusted friends. The goal is to gain the clarity needed to make conscious, informed decisions rather than being driven by unconscious patterns.
3. Purposeful Living: Charting Your Course

An Ark without a destination is just driftwood. Purposeful Living is the work of charting your course. It’s about defining your “why” and aligning your life’s direction with it.

  • What it is: Clarifying your personal vision, mission, and meaningful goals. It is about creating a sense of meaning and fulfilment by contributing to something greater than yourself.
  • How to use it: This involves taking the time to write down your goals and aspirations. Ask yourself:
    • “What is the legacy I want to leave?”
    • “What is the unique calling (my ‘Aaron’s Staff’) that Modimo has placed on my life?” “How can my daily actions be a direct expression of my core purpose?”.

This element turns your journey into a mission.

4. Knowledge and Skills: Equipping Your Vessel

A captain needs tools like compasses, maps, and the skill to navigate storms. Knowledge and Skills are the practical equipment for your journey. This domain is about intentionally developing your competence and capabilities.

  • What it is: The lifelong process of learning and personal development. This includes formal education, professional training, digital skills, leadership abilities, and practical, experience-based learning.
  • How to use it: Look at the course you’ve charted (your Purposeful Living) and ask,
    • “What do I need to learn to get there?”
    • “What skills must I develop to be more effective in my calling?”.

This could mean taking a course, reading books, finding a mentor, or simply adopting a mindset of continuous growth and curiosity.

5. Health and Well-being: Maintaining Your Ark

The most beautiful Ark is useless if its hull is leaking and its mast is broken. Health and Well-being is the crucial practice of maintaining your vessel—your body, mind, and spirit—so it is resilient enough for the long journey.

  • What it is: A holistic approach to self-care that includes your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, relational, familial, professional, and even financial health. It is about managing stress, getting proper rest, and creating a sustainable work-life balance.
  • How to use it: This domain prompts you to honestly assess your habits. Are you taking care of your body as the vessel of God’s presence? Are you managing stress in healthy ways?.

It involves creating routines and boundaries that protect your well-being, ensuring you have the energy and strength to live out your purpose audaciously.

6. Relationships and Partnerships: Sailing with Your Fleet

Your Ark was not meant to sail the ocean alone. Relationships and Partnerships acknowledges that we journey in a fleet. Our connections with others can be our greatest source of strength, support, and growth.

  • What it is: The intentional cultivation of healthy, supportive relationships with family, friends, mentors, and colleagues. It is about building trust, practising effective communication, resolving conflict, and collaborating with others.
  • How to use it: This element invites you to reflect on the key relationships in your life.
    • Are you loving your neighbour as yourself?
    • Are you nurturing them?
    • Are you practicing forgiveness and grace?

It’s about building a strong, supportive community around you, knowing that the health of our fleet determines how far we can all go together.

7. Community Engagement: The Purpose of the Voyage

The voyage of the Ark is not just for the sake of the vessel itself; it is about the impact it has on the wider world. Community Engagement is about directing your journey outward, using your gifts to serve others and contribute to positive change.

  • What it is: The active expression of your social responsibility and ethics. It includes everything from volunteerism and advocacy to simply being a responsible and loving presence in your community.
  • How to use it: This is the ultimate outflow of grace. Because you have received mosa, you are called to extend it. This domain asks,
    • “How can I use my skills, resources, and passion to make a positive impact?”.

It is about ensuring your personal journey contributes to the well-being of the collective, leaving a trail of grace and kindness wherever your Ark may travel.

Shap – closing

My journey begins and ends where I started: God’s grace. Every audacious step I take and every humble bow I make is held securely in the promise that Modimo O mosa. I am an Ark of an important covenant, a carrier of the sacred. I hold within me the perfect law of my Highest Self, and I am covered completely by the perfect mercy of my Creator. Today, I will go forward, carry my Ark with courage and with grace, and live as the dwelling place of the living God. I simply invite you to build and sail your AHC.
